Jenny Wollerman completed her vocal studies with four years at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. After graduating in 1991 with a Master of Music in Opera, she undertook further studies at the Banff Centre in Canada and the Britten-Pears School in Aldeburgh, England, before returning to pursue her career in Australia and New Zealand. She has since appeared throughout Australasia, as well as in Britain, Belgium, Ireland and Taiwan, performing with the New Zealand, Tasmanian, Adelaide, West Australian and Taiwan Symphony Orchestras. For NZ Opera she has appeared as Micaëla in Carmen, Xenia in Boris Godunov, and Mimì in La Boheme. She has been a soloist in six NZ International Arts Festivals, in works including Stravinsky’s Les Noces, Christopher Blake’s Bitter Calm, Mahler’s Eighth Symphony, Orphée et Eurydice, Handel’s L’Allegro with the Mark Morris Dance Company, Rachmaninov’s The Bells and Wagner’s Parsifal. Other engagements include Léïla in Les Pêcheurs de Perles for the State Opera of South Australia, Lutoslawski’s Chantefleurs et Chantefables with the Tasmanian Symphony, Carmina Burana and John Psathas’ Orpheus in Rarohenga with Orpheus Choir and NZSO, and Ravel’s Shéhérazade song cycle with the West Australian and Adelaide orchestras. She has also recorded Mendelssohn's Midsummer Night's Dream music with the NZSO for release on the Naxos label. She is noted for her recital work, performing her ‘Water of Life’ programme in the Wellington, Christchurch and Taranaki festivals. Voice tutor at the NZ School of Music, in 2005 both the 1st and 2nd prizes in the Lexus Song Quest went to her students. Recent appearances have included Mozart’s Requiem with the NZSO, Handel’s Messiah and John Tavener’s Lament for Jerusalem, and she was heard last year with the orchestra in Stravinsky’s Pulcinela and Mozart’s Exsultate Jubilate.
