Presenter Kevin Keys and Murray the Musical Bear return with a programme of orchestral adventure. Listeners aged 2-6 will sing along with classic kid's songs like "Do-Re-Mi" and the "A-B-C's," keep time to "Grandfather's Clock," and thrill to big orchestral numbers like "Sabre Dance" and the Star Wars theme. This concert encourages plenty of movement, as young audience members learn to conduct, count in time, and march right through the middle of the orchestra. This year VWO Education Composer-in-Residence Thomas Goss has composed a new work on the Maori legend of Tongariro’s fight with Taranaki. The Battle of the Mountains will be a spectacular re-telling for orchestra and narrator.

It’s a timeless classic of musical education: Benjamin Britten’s Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra. Britten’s clever score takes a stately theme from Purcell and runs it through a set of variations that allow all the instruments of the orchestra their moment to shine. Learning about music should always be this much fun!

Presenter: Kevin Keys
